Bright Ideas to Make Brushing The Teeth Fun for Kids

Dental hygiene is an important part of your child's overall health. Regular brushing and flossing help to prevent cavities, gum disease, and other dental issues. However, not all toddlers are really interested in brushing their teeth. Don't worry; these tips will help to make brushing interesting and fun for your kid.

Play a game

When your kids see all of the fun games they're missing when brushing their teeth, they'll be better motivated to brush. They won't feel like they're doing it 'just because' or that you have forced them into it. Instead, they'll look forward to their two minutes of brushing time each day because it is something to look forward to and get excited about. Below are a few ways you can encourage your kids to play while they brush:

  • Use a timer to keep track of how long your kids have been brushing. For example, have them set the timer to go off after two minutes, so they know how long they have left before they have to stop.
  • Turn toothbrushing into a game. This could be as simple as seeing who can finish first or even creating a competition between siblings to see who can get the most cavities-free teeth by the end of the month. Try to make a game out of every part of oral hygiene, including flossing, rinsing, and even spitting out toothpaste. This will keep kids more engaged in their oral care and keep them looking forward to their next trip to the dentist's office.
  • Play their favorite song while they brush. Next time they need to go brush their teeth, ask them to pick out a song they like to listen to while they're in the bathroom. If they like the song, they'll be more interested in taking care of their oral health routine. Plus, it's an easy way to get them to listen to one song without repeating the same ones over and over again!

Create a reward system

Create a reward system where your little ones can earn rewards for taking care of their teeth. Things like choosing what to eat for dinner that night or getting to pick their favorite movie to watch can all contribute to them being excited about brushing their teeth. Sometimes kids just need a little incentive to do their best to follow through with an oral health routine. You can also buy your child a special reward chart to help them keep track of how many days they brushed their teeth without a fuss or if they go a week without cavities.

Teach them about the importance of good oral hygiene

Teaching kids the importance of oral hygiene from a young age is essential for promoting healthy, happy lives and preventing future complications.

Let them choose their toothbrush

One way to make tooth brushing fun for kids is to let them choose their favorite toothbrush and toothpaste. Letting them pick out their own toothbrushes allows them to get excited about their oral health routine. If one of your kids has a favorite cartoon character or sports team, there are options available that will allow your child to show their love for that character every time they brush their teeth!
